Time After Tyler: Alternate Mirrors Part 2

That... that was him... in the mirror... but with powers! But he was using them for...

Dizzy and badly shaken, he reached out a hand for support and felt the smooth, cold surface of another mirror.

Behind him, he could hear Ambriel and Ron talking hushed and worriedly, but he couldn't spare them much attention, not if he wanted to maintain a bubble this big.

"So... what do we do now?" Ambriel was asking.

"I dunno," Ron replied. "We find a new place to live, I guess. Dr. Positron is working on that now. Can you keep it up, Tyler?"

At his name, Cosmo Powers turned, pulling down his mask with one hand (he couldn't spare both). "I have to, at least until Herschel fixes all the doors so they don't leak air..." He was sweating heavily; keeping the entire facility contained was hard. "I've never made a gravity bubble this big before, and it's... tiring."

He turned back to the wall where the was bubble centered as two other figures entered into the room. Dillon looked scared underneath his helmet, when he spoke. "Did we get away in time? I mean, are we... infected?"

"We'll find out soon," Ms. Kyle replied, holding onto the doorframe for support.

"But we can go back and fight those alien things, right?" Ron spoke up again quietly. "I mean, Prospero knows who they are, so he can help us figure out how to stop them."

"And then what? Without a cure, the world will be nothing but aliens someday..." Franklin pointed out.

The video com system crackled to life, with Herschel Clay's face peering through the grainy reception. «Good news, folks. I've sealed all the bulkheads, so Tyler can ease up on holdin' in our air and concentrate on propulsion. The fusion reactor's workin' good, what with Suzi's help and all. I got some oxygen generators in the works, and Positron thinks we've got a good shot at knockin' out this virus... maybe.»

"You mean, we're--?" There was a lot of apprehension in Ms. Kyle's voice.

«Huh? Oh, no, we got away clean, no infections, but the rest of Earth wasn't so lucky. But they've got time. Positron says it's a tough nut to crack, but he thinks he and Newby can pull it off... eventually.»

"Does he want me to keep going?" Tyler spoke up wearily from his spot at the wall.

«Only if you don't hurt yourself,» Herschel said kindly. «I'm puttin' somethin' together that can take the load off, but that's about a day or two away. Can you keep us movin' a few hours longer?»

"I think so..." He was on his knees now.

He felt someone's hand on his back. Ms. Kyle had come to kneel beside and watch over him as he tried to push the escaped school building into a stable orbit around the Earth below. "Thank you, Tyler. Because of you... there might still be hope for the people on Earth."

His hand came away from the wall, and this time, he managed to just fall down on all fours and hyperventilate a bit, before calming down. At least that... him... was nice. So having powers didn't automatically make him evil. That was a relief. But were there any--what? alternate realities?--that weren't scary?
