Gotham City visit, day 2.

It's morning. Actually to clarify things, it's morning in Gotham City, set in the apartment of Dinahs Lance, Snr. and Jnr. There might be birds outside, or that low soft whistling might be the house guest, having found some eggs to fry up for breakfast, while the morning wake-up aroma of fresh coffee spreads through the apartment.

Despite the very late and unsociable hours of conciousness last night, their house guest found himself rising with the dawn as per certain habits. Namely those of 'getting people fed' and not becoming the recipient of the ice-water wake up call.

As Dinah hangs back, listening, the storekeeper picks up first the gold, then the silver, gives them a close look, and then eyes Beauford suspiciously.

"Where did you get these from?"

[basic_powers]

"Beachcombing on Wabasso Beach, in Florida." Beauford supplies easily and readily enough. "Well the gold coin was Wabasso beach, the silver came from a boat that'd been dug up by the Missouri river."

Well it can't be proved, but it win't leave the pawnbroker in any trouble, either.

"Well," he says, "I've never seen coins like this before. If you want to find their historic value, you'll need to see an antique dealer. I can pay you for the value of the metal."

"How much would that be?"

If the pawnbroker had asked, he'd have found out how much a nerd Beauford is. One long babbling spree of the history of the Florida Coastline and the Changing Course of Mighty rivers.

He hadn't asked.

"I'll have to check, but I figure these silvers will be worth about two twenty five, two thirty. Seven fifty for the gold. How many are you looking to seel?"

[basic_powers]

"All of them, gold included." He doesn't look that thrilled at the price, as it's a good bit less than what he expected, but they're good round numbers.

And even with underselling he's getting cash right now.

He nods, and pulls out a ledger from under the counter, then takes first the silvers then the gold to a set of electronic scales to his side.

"Two twenty nine each, for the silver," he says. "Seven fifty seven gold. Which makes sixteen hundred and seventy three dollars. Cash?"

"Cash please." Beauford nods, folding his hands together on the counter and watching.

Pulling out a form from a ring binder, he offers it to Beauford to fill out while counting out the cash.

"You got ID?"

[basic_powers]

"Right here."

There's a little bundle of a wallet pulled from another pocket inside of the jacket. It's an out of state license, one for Seattle, Washington, but it has all of the correct info.

That's fine by the store owner, who only needs it for legal purposes anyway. He hands over the money, mostly in hundreds, and copies details down from the license before returning it.

"Have a nice day."

[basic_powers]

"Thanks, you too."

The money gets pocketed securely enough into one other pocket in the jacket before he jogs ober to Dinah Snr. "Find anything interesting?"

"Nothing I can't live without," she says with a smile. "The grocery store's just around the corner."

[basic_powers]

"Great," He's already opening the door for her again, and heading for the bike.

"Didn't sell everything, by the way."

[raptorcanaria]

"Good," Dinah says. "You don't want all your money to be from our world after all."

The journey to the grocery is as short as she said, and Dinah hands him a couple of the bags when she dismounts.

"Get everything you need. I need to run to the post office."

"Alright, y-" It takes a moment for him to remember that people don't casually carry cellphones right now.

"I'll wait outside with the groceries when I'm done." He manages to recover after that slight break. "You going to be happy with what's in the freezer for dessert tonight, or should I pick up the stuff for something fresh?"

"What's in the freezer will do me fine," she says with a smile. "Thanks, Beauford."

"I'll be quick then."

It doesn't take him long to grab everything he'll need for the next few days of cooking. When Dinah pulls back into the grocery parking lots, she'll find Beauford waiting patiently beside two full shopping carts of goods. Most of the bulk is the basic staples, dried beans, bags of rice, onions, potatoes and 4 whole chickens. the rest is fresh produce, canned goods and one six-bottle box of beer and two boxes of wine.

She grins as she takes her helmet off and helps him load up the motorcycle. "Did you find everything OK?"

[basic_powers]

"Just for the poultry, I think I'll need to ask you to help me get enough beef tomorrow." There is quite frankly, no way he's spending an extra 30% on the price of beef in the grocery if he can get it cheaper and render the meat from a side himself.

And they get free steaks that way.

"I'll be good for today with all of this."

"Glad to hear it."

She nods to the back of the motorcycle. "We'll need to hurry, though. I need to open up."

And Dinah won't be awake. Or if she is, she'll be out.

[basic_powers]

"I'll unload as quickly as I can, Mrs. Lance." Beauford replies, getting into the seat behind her and holding on.

It might not be as fast a ride back, but at least it's a safe one. Once the Katana's parked, he's already hopping off to unload the pannier bags and double-time it up the steps to the apartment.

She just lets him do that, and walks into the store to start opening up.

Dinah jnr's door is still shut, and the apartment quiet.

That suits him just fine, but how can Dinah sleep through all of the noise he must be making right now. It's several trips to and from the bike before he's got everything put away or set out in the kitchen.

Well, there's still hot coffee left, he can sit down and help himself to some of that while he catches his breath. And listen to every little noise in the apartment, it's still early morning after all.

She's REALLY GOOD at sleeping. And there was a late night.

Although later in the morning the 'phone rings suddenly, and Dinah emerges, in her sleepy shorts and tank top, and shuffles towards the phone, smiling a hello to Beauford in the process.
