There was just enough space between the cars in the junkyard to see the Earth Defense League, all of them, including his parents, coming up to the decoy bus in the middle of the street. Then as the wings extended and the rockets in the back of the bus lit up for take off, he could barely hear what the Rainmaker kids were talking about into the disposable cellphone. As the rocketbus took off with a roar, the Earth Defense League contingent sped their pursuit, then fell off as they recieved the 'new information from the kidnapped children'. Moon Shadow was privately wondering how the heck butt to write this all up in his journal -- the fourth backup he kept in case his stuff was destroyed.

He was amazed that the plan actually worked, with all the other kids, even Cecil, following the instructions to the last letter. Especially the part where his parents seemed to be buying ... the excuse about the historical re-enactors rescuing the children and giving them swords.

And he wasn't thinking all that much about Angie until she started asking him questions.

"Uh, lucky guess?"

"An' dat I had a rocket bus?"

"Lucky guess."

Not so lucky at the moment however.

"An'...?"

"Thank you for your help, young lady," the Revenant cut her off, "especially for the use of your cell phone. Now, we need to go before our friends get picked up out front. This debit card should cover the cost of your bus, as well as the phone; it will most likely be confiscated as evidence."

"Oh, cool 'dat," said Angie, taking the card. "It's a phreaked phone anyhow. An' I gots a tunnel dat goes out da back. Jus' open the third fridge on da left."

"Thanks," The little masked man replied turning towards the fridge.

"No problem, kid. Anybody what likes firin' off rockets as much as me is aces in my book, knowhutahmsayin'?"

"Uh..."

"Thank you, miss. After you, Moon Shadow," said the Revenant, holding the refrigerator door for him.

Once the refrigerator door shut behind them, Moon Shadow glanced back up towards the Revenant.

"She didn't recognize me?"

"It didn't seem like it," the Revenant agreed, seemingly unconcerned.

"But she's helped me with my gadgets in shop class!"

Or at least the first designs on the grappler. After that it was all Ray Stantz tutoring Tyler.

"Were you wearing your costume in class?"

"Well, no..."

The vigilante bent to clear a particularly low area of ceiling."It's amazing what people will overlook, even when it's right in front of them, isn't it?"

"So the Rainmaker kids didn't know who I was, either?" He turned to look at the covered face for some hint he was on the right track with this line of thought.

The Nightmare Detective gave a little nod. "Probably not."

"I guess that's good," The gadgethero/normalbadass in training says, pausing in front of the large vault door. "Especially if my folks ask them any questions."

They had reached a vault-style door; the Revenant gave the locking wheel a turn.

"How did you get a hold of your parents, anyway?"

"Oh, I called them on the Earth Defense League Hotline."

"And how many other people know that number?"

"Uh..." It took a little bit of thought to realize how little he knew about his parents, or their jobs. "I dunno. Not too many."

"Then I'd use it sparingly, if you want to keep your identity truly secret. I'm not sure what your mother and father would think of our 'hero training'."

"This has to do with that 'wanted in thirty-three states' thing, doesn't it?" He asked, falling into step behind his mentor before they entered the section of concrete drainage pipe up ahead.

"Mostly, yes. Also, they've let it be known that non-meta people like me have no business trying to help solve the world's problems."

There is only a little scorn in his voice as he says this. Knowing him, it's only there at all because he wants it to be.

"But...most people aren't metahumans."

"As I said, it's amazing what people will overlook, even when it's right in front of them isn't it? Now, I think I've got a change of clothes for you back at the house, and I'm sure Cranston can arrange for a ride to the city for me."

Sometime later, after a stealthy run back to the house and a shower with a change of clothes.

When Tyler was fairly sure that the Revenant wasn't watching him, he trotted to a closet in the back bedroom. Opening the door and thinking as hard as he could about Milliways, when he opened his eyes...

It was just the semi-empty closet with some blankets on the top shelf.

Open.

Shut.

Open. Shut.

Well, he wasn't watching him. But the sound of a door repeatedly opening and closing can attract attention.

"Something wrong?"

"...rrrr." Openshutopenshutopenshut!

This is one Revenant might be able to figure out on his own.

True enough.

"Perhaps you should try another door," he suggests mildly. "Before you wear out the hinges on that one."

"Closet doors work really well, usually."

"I wonder if there's a reason for that?" he muses. "Sounds as if it's not letting you in at the moment, then. Is it particularly urgent?"

"...not really." He is giving the door a some what sullen glance. Bonus points if the Revenant can figure out why Tyler wants to go.

The Revenant is silent for a moment, then says,

"If it helps, you handled yourself very well today."

It's enough to make him leave the door alone. Maybe it's for the best, he was stuck in there for a time which Revenant knows nothing about.

"...I better go back to school, I still have a bunch of homework to redo."

"All right. Though if you still want to take a break first, I think I left some Ben & Jerry's in the freezer."

Pause.

"What flavor?"

"... Fossil Fuel, I think."

"Kay."
